Ubislates for the Grace Villa girls

Dear friends,

Welcome to the Grace Villa Kabale blog!
Ruth at Grace Villa Kabale on Makanga Hill

Last night the girls at Grace Villa received a great surprise - brand new tablet PC's called Ubislates from Datawind in India (click on the image at the end for a larger view of the Ubislate).  Thanks to the generosity of Suneet Singh Tuli the CEO of Datawind who donated 14 units to Grace Villa and Susan Jane Smith a Harvard University employee who initially expressed an interest to Datawind to buy Ubislates for the Grace Villa girls.

Ruth said that the girls were excited about being able to use a tablet computer for the first time.  Interestingly, none of them asked, "how does it work?" They simply dug in and started exploring the devices on their own.

I'm sure that in the coming days we will hear a lot more from Ruth and the GV girls on their experience with the Ubislates.  Susan has also developed a learning site for the GV girls on www.coursesites.com called "Grace Villa Learning Adventures".  An adventure it is for both us and the GV girls.  We are really excited about the way the girls lives will be impacted by using e-educational program to aid and enhance their learning.

Thanks to the students at Massachusetts Institute of Technology who have developed video tutorials for Kindergarten through high school students at www.khanacademy.org

And to Intel for their Learning and Teaching resources at www.skoool.com

Now, lets get on with our adventure!
